Ava the Monster Slayer is an Illinois Reads Pick for 2017!!!

We are so excited that Ava the Monster is a 2017 Illinois Reads pick for ages K-2. This is a wonderful honor and we cannot wait for the Kick-Off at Wilmington Middle School in Wilmington, Illinois on March 11th! Illinois Reads is an annual statewide program of the Illinois Reading Council that promotes reading and highlights Illinois authors. The program encourages reading for all Illinois citizens by selecting thirty-six titles written by Illinois authors and/or illustrated by Illinois illustrators to appeal to all ages of readers – birth to adult.

Love is in the Air!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and evokes a feeling of LOVE…I do enjoy a great love story.  On my facebook fan page I asked people to share their favorite love stories. Here’s a compilation of recommended books. My personal favorite: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.  It combines fanatasy, some great sex scenes, and history to make a memorable read.

Author Visit at Millburn Elementary!

I had my first author visit at Millburn Elementary in Wadsworth, IL. It was AWESOME! I presented to K-5 and had lunch with future writers. It was so much fun and I look forward to more school visits. If you are interested in having me visit your school, send me a message via my contact page on my website.

YA Novel with Beta Readers!

I spent over one year on my YA novel: research, interviews, traveling to Vietnam and finally, writing the story! And now, it’s in the hands of ten Beta readers who have experience and expertise with my subject matter. I am so excited about this next step—to make it the best version it can be!

Here’s the blurb:

When the battle for Saigon is lost, all American troops leave Vietnam. They also leave behind Tin, a Black Amerasian who is labeled a child of the enemy by the Communist Government. Tin is called a black dog and a bui doi: dust of life. But Tin, who was raised by his grandmother, remembers her stories about a great love between his parents and the strong love that is American GI father had for him. Tin dreams of being reunited with his father on American soil. Tin meets Trung, Paul and Ellis, Amerasian’s with the same dream. Together they plan their escape enduring starvation, illness, and jail and all will risk death for a father they may never find.
